LOS ANGELES, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- The wreckage of a tour helicopter with seven people aboard, which went missing on Thursday in Hawaii, has been found in a mountainous region, local authorities confirmed on Friday.

The crash site of the helicopter has been confirmed in Koke'e State Park near Nu'alolo Cliff Trail on the Kauai island, according to a release of the Kauai County.

Seven individuals were on the flight, including one pilot and six passengers, said the release.

"First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these passengers," said Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami. "Operations continue and we are doing everything we can at this time."

"Additional resources are on the way and the search for survivors is ongoing," the Kauai police said on Facebook.

There might be no survivors in the crash, official sources told Hawaii News Now.

Multiple agencies have been engaged in a massive search for the aircraft by air and sea.

The owner of the helicopter, Kauai-based Safari Helicopters, contacted the U.S. Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Honolulu at 6:06 p.m. local time on Thursday (0406 GMT on Friday), saying the aircraft was due back at 5:21 p.m. (0321 GMT) from a tour of Kauai's Na Pali Coast.

The chopper was equipped with an electronic locator, but no signals were received after it disappeared, according to an earlier press release from the Coast Guard.
