ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's teenage sensation Farida Khalil continued her breakthrough season by winning the women's gold medal at the UIPM 2025 Pentathlon World Cup final here on Sunday.

The 14-year-old, who has expressed her ambition to compete at the 2028 Olympic Games, scored 1,470 points to top the podium by a commanding 27-second margin, sealing her third gold medal of the season in front of her home fans.

Khalil delivered a strong all-around performance, setting the fastest obstacle time of the weekend at 29.20 seconds and winning her swimming heat in 2:14.07 to close the gap to Italy's Aurora Tognetti. Despite an early exit in the fencing round, the Egyptian star surged ahead in the laser run and never looked back.

She overtook laser run leader Tognetti from the start and maintained her advantage throughout, holding off a late surge from South Korea's Seong Seung-min, who finished second with 1,443 points. Hungary's Blanka Guzi claimed bronze with 1,440, while fellow Egyptian Malak Ismail came 12th with 1,390 points.

Khalil, who won the 2023 U17 World Championship at the age of 12, is widely seen as one of the sport's most promising young athletes.

With this result, Egypt's medal tally at the 2025 World Cup series rises to seven, including three golds and one silver for Khalil alone, and earlier podium finishes by Moataz Wael and Mohanad Shaban in the men's events, and Ismail in the women's.

Held from July 4 to 6 at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria, the 2025 Pentathlon World Cup featured 18 male and 18 female athletes in Sunday's finals.

The men's final is scheduled for later Sunday, with Egypt fielding its full-strength trio of Wael, Shaban and Mohamed Hassan, all of whom advanced through Saturday's semifinals.
