KAMPALA, May 16 (Xinhua) -- The Ugandan government on Wednesday said it will talk to South Sudan about the release of a Ugandan who was captured with six other people by unknown gunmen.

Brig. Richard Karemire, Uganda's military spokesperson, told Xinhua by telephone that authorities in Kampala will liaise with their Juba colleagues to ensure the safe release of Ambrose Olaa.

"Our security forces will liaise and exchange any available information with the government of South Sudan that may lead to their quick release," said Karemire.

Unknown gunmen on Tuesday abducted seven people including Olaa while on their way from Tambura to Yambio in South Sudan's, Western Equatoria. The nationality of the other six is not yet known.

"I don't know yet (their whereabouts) but I am also tracing whether our forces have them," Lt. Col. Gabriel Paul Lam, deputy military spokesperson of the Sudan People's Liberation Army In Opposition, told Xinhua in a text message.

Olaa, according to the local Daily Monitor, has been working as a contract consultant on conflict management for the World Bank in the neighboring country.
