DHAKA, March 5 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese culture competition was conducted in Bangladesh's leading North South University on Monday to celebrate the Chinese Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the Lunar New Year.

Dhaka University Confucius Institute, North South University Confucius Institute and CRI-SMF Confucius Classroom in association with the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka and the Bangladeshi government organized the competition titled "4th Chinese Knowledge Contest, 2018 Lantern Festival Gala" on Monday.

Wang Siyu, NSU Confucius Institute teacher, said the celebration ceremony and competition are aimed at inspiring Bangladeshi students who are learning Chinese language to build bridges of friendship between the peoples of the two countries through more cultural exchanges.

He said at least 60 students applied to attend the competition, 12 of whom were finally selected through initial processes to join the competition.

The winners were awarded prizes and certificates according to their individual results by the NSU Pro-Vice-Chancellor G. U. Ahsan.

At the event, various cultural performances were also showcased by students and cultural groups from the participating institutions.
